Vampiric companions Sergius and Derrick see war differently as the former wishes the killing would end while the latter sees the chaos as a time for easy dining as he did back in 1812 and is doing during the War Between The States. Needing to control his feral urges to kill, Serge, accompanied by Derrick, visits Evangeline, daughter of voodoo queen Marie Laveau, to asks for a remedy that will abate his bloodlust. Derrick goes on a rage and Serge loses control after exchanging insults with holier than thou Evangeline.

In the present, Serge resides in Hollywood with his need for blood kill; but he targets those predatory beasts who murder humans. FBI Agent Alexis Martin is in Southern California on a strange case of weird homicides that is also personal as she hunts the vampire who took her sister. When the Fed and the Vamp meet, they are attracted to one another and join forces as they stalk rogue killers while adversaries hunt them.

This Shadow Keepers romantic urban fantasy (see When Passion Lies, When Pleasure Rules and When Wicked Craves) is an exhilarating thriller with a fabulous late twist that will shock the audience who will not be ready for it though clues are throughout the storyline. The lead couple is a nice pairing of two hunters falling in love, which may lead to the deaths of both them.
